Motherhood
We fall in love, we marry, then we have children. We call this FAMILY. Our first experience of having a child is a remarkable and memorable one.
I always wondered if I would be able to handle children, having watched my nephews and nieces grow. After having my own children three years into my marriage, the nine months of waiting was a long time. During this period I gained lots of knowledge on how to love, nurture and take care of a growing baby. Aside from the above I spent money preparing and stocking up the necessities a baby requires.
I slowly learned the importance of family togetherness, the importance of also having friends around at this vital part of life and the responsibility of taking care of another human being.
Where love, morals, values and rules became the basic foundation for life. That quality care is such an important part in the future growth of an infant. How the early years also determines whether a child will reach his or her full potential? I knew that the events during this time will have a lasting impact, and will affect a child’s growth and development throughout his or her life. It is for this reason that it was so important for me to focus on building a strong foundation for my child, by providing appropriate care and affection, and by creating sufficient opportunities for learning.
Within two years after having my first child, I ticked against a checklist to see whether my toddler had completed his paediatric visits, had all his immunisations, and achieved his developmental milestones. He reached his milestones at his own pace though.
Well there you have it, the first steps to motherhood, collect information while waiting, save and prepare, take responsibility, develop a strong foundation, care and follow your checklist. That settled it. My first success to motherhood. It felt GREAT 🙂
